Whole Home Decorating: The Easy Way

Sometimes a fresh start is needed. With a new season comes new style elements. Or, the idea of a new start just seems appealing. Whatever the reason, whole home decorating can seem to be a daunting task. But, it doesn’t have to be! It may feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help you simplify the process. There are two schools of thought when freshening up your home…

Which Method Describes You?

Choosing a decorating method will help lift the weight off your shoulders. The first one, “Common Theme,” is explained in the name. By using the same color scheme and decorating style throughout your home, you’ll experience a consistent flow when traveling from room to room. This method is especially great for open floor plan homes to create a cohesive feel.

If the idea of each room having the same theme doesn’t fit with your style, don’t worry! Our next method, “Spatial Personality,” uses the idea of decorating your home room by room. Instead of one consistent theme, the use of varying palettes and decor elements allows each room to shine in it’s own way! And, of course, there are times when you’ll use both methods–maybe your open floor plan showcases a consistent theme, but your bathrooms and bedrooms all display spatial personality!

Where to Start…

Deciding where to start can sometimes be the hardest part of whole home decorating. With all the ideas you must have, pinpointing a starting point can often feel just as daunting as the actual process. We have some ideas of what elements should be decided to get the process going! Let’s take a look at those foundational choices…

#1 Color Choices

Picking a color scheme is the start of your path to whole home decorating. Color plays a huge role in setting the atmosphere. Looking for a cozy vibe? Try darker colors. Want to create an open, airy feel? Lighter colors are ideal! From the most popular foundations of gray, beige or white, to accents of bold hues or subtle shades, you’ll highlight the character and decor of your home.

#2 New Walls.

If you feel like you want to add more personality to your rooms, it’s time to focus on the walls. Once you’ve decided on color, it’s time to add an extra layer of personality. In recent years, we’ve seen a boost of design elements added to walls. Wallpaper, wall coverings, shiplap walls, reclaimed wood and board & batten have all become an ideal way to accent the decor of your home.
