“The Golden Hour” is that time of day when the world seems to surround us in warm, gentle light. Shortly after sunrise, or right before sunset–sunlight seems diffused and soft, featuring a golden glow. Want to recreate that in your home? It’s time you met Silhouette Shades. A type of sheer shades, the sheer fabrics invite soft light and golden tones into your home while keeping the harsh rays out. They create your own personal “Golden Hour” over the course of the day. Want to know more? Let’s explore the Silhouette Shade features that create this atmosphere…
The Colors
When we think of sheer shades, sometimes it’s easy just to think of the sheers. But one of the Silhouette Shade features you’ll have to select is the color of the solid fabric vanes.
We offer a beautiful selection of fabrics, and they don’t have to be neutral. Sometimes, a dark color, or a bold look in the best way to go.
Vane Positions
When it comes to the solid vanes of sheer shades, there are often two ways homeowners position them. One is to position the vanes open, with the light entering through the sheers–the view of the outdoors is revealed. The other is to close them, so the shades are glowing, but direct light is blocked, and so is the view. Much of this can depend on your home, the location of the windows, the privacy you need, and how light falls against the windows in question.
There’s another option, however. When the vanes are adjusted slightly open, the direct light enters down toward the flooring to allow more light into your home. With the latest innovation, you can also choose to tilt the vanes upward toward the ceiling. This is called Halo, and it allows you to illuminate the ceiling of your home, while still maintaining privacy.

Is Two Better Than One?
We’re talking about dual shades, and we think “Yes!” Silhouette shade features give you a range of light control, from the soft sheer view-through, to closed off views with increased light control. But, dual shades? That takes the sheer shade experience to a whole new level! A blackout roller shade is incorporated into the headrail, but the two shades operate independently, so you can experience the widest range of control we have to offer.

Sheers Layers: Traditional VS ClearView
Who knew you’d have to decide which sheer fabrics would serve you best. But, here we are. The longstanding reputation of these window shades began with sheer fabrics that softened incoming light, while offering a hazy view of the outdoors. Along came the ClearView fabric option, and suddenly that view is crisp, sharp and highly defined. How is this possible? It’s all due to the black fabric used, but we consider it magic.

Of course, there are plenty of homeowners that still love the dreamy haze provided by the traditional sheer fabrics. Being able to choose what’s right for your home is part of the customization!

What to Do: Doors and Windows
It’s common for homes to feature doors and windows in the same shared space. How are you supposed to style them? That’s the question, isn’t it? If you love the Silhouette Shade features you’re seeing, you’ve got options for windows AND doors. Silhouette shades can cover windows with ease, but they can also cover doors: Patio doors, french doors or sliding glass.

Here’s another option. Choose Silhouette Shades for the windows of your home, and coordinate Luminette Privacy Sheers for the sliding doors. You can choose matching fabrics for a uniform look, but everything moves the way it needs to.

Operating Features
Another big part of customizing your Silhouette Shade features is to choose how you’d like to operate them. Do you prefer manual control? Or, would you like to have them motorized? Would you prefer to have a cord or wand to operate? Or is cordless important to you? These are great questions to ask yourself as you narrow down your selections. The Hunter Douglas Silhouette collection features cord-safe and cordless options in manual control. You can also choose whether to have individual motorization at a specific window, or automation for multiple windows in your home, controlled by a remote or device.
