Roman Shades FAQs
Is there a difference between light-filtering and blackout roman shades?
Yes, this is specific to fabric opacity. Light-filtering fabrics allow soft daylight to enter, while maintaining privacy. Blackout fabrics block most light. Blackout fabrics are an ideal choice for bedrooms and media rooms.
Are roman shades available as cordless shades?
Yes. Cordless shades operate using the LiteRise® system, which is controlled manually by applying a push or pull to the bottom rail of the window shade. The roman shade will stay where they are placed. Cordless shades create a clean look and enhance pet and child safety by removing visible cords.
Can roman shades be motorized or automated?
Absolutely. By choosing the PowerView® automation system, your motorized roman shades can adjust with a remote, app, or voice control–when integrated with your smart home system.
Which roman shade styles are available?
When it comes to choosing a style of custom roman shades, there are a number of selections. Flat, hobbled, and knife-pleat styles are popular. You can select roman shades that gather as they rise, or roll up into the headrail and disappear. Our window covering specialists will help you match fold style, liner, and fabric to your room.
Do roman shades help with privacy and insulation?
Yes, they can. Fabric opacity and liner choices improve privacy, which can also reduce heat gain, making rooms more comfortable all year long. Doulite® dual shades are available with select roman shades, adding an additional window shade to the same headrail, but offering independent operation for increased privacy and energy efficiency.
How do I clean and maintain roman shades?
Light vacuuming with a brush attachment keeps fabrics fresh and free of dust. For deeper care, or spot cleaning, follow fabric-specific guidance.
