How Do Motorized Shades Work?

Hunter Douglas motorized shades use a built-in motor to adjust your window treatments without manually raising or lowering them. With PowerView® Automation, you can control compatible shades with a remote, the PowerView® app, voice commands or automated schedules and scenes.

Battery Operated Shades

With Hunter Douglas PowerView^® automated shades, you have two choices for battery power. AA batteries are a disposable option and are typically replaced every 1-2 years, based on daily usage. Hunter Douglas also offers the rechargeable battery wand, replacing the need for disposable batteries. With both battery types, the batteries are housed in a sleek compartment within the headrail. Existing AA battery shades can be retro-fit for rechargeable battery power.

Hardwired Shades & Pre-Wired Homes

Automated shades can be hardwired for low-voltage electrical power. This is a popular option when homeowners are building a new home or remodeling their existing home, since access to the electrical source is necessary. Choosing this power source means no regular battery maintenance in the future.
