When we talk about style statements at the window, the conversation will always involve draperies. Instantly softening the look of a room, drapes add dimension, color and personality at the window in fabrics that coordinate with your decor. And, they offer amazing control when it comes to lighting and privacy. It’s no surprise they’re a staple of design. But what are the current drapery trends we should all be on the lookout for?
Perfectly Patterned
Are you a patterned fabric lover? You’ll know if you are. Damasks, stripes, paisleys or wide sweeping florals…certain patterns call your name, and you get that “gotta have it” feeling inside. If you love patterns on fabrics, you’re in luck. Current drapery trends include bringing patterns into the look of your room to further extend the vibe you’re trying to achieve.
Delightful Details
The saying goes, “it’s all about the little things,” and we couldn’t agree more. Drapery details include hardware selections in today’s most popular finishes, including matte black, gold, natural brass and oil-rubbed bronze. The header refers to the top of the draperies, where the fabric attaches to the curtain rod, with rings, drapery hooks and grommets.
The way the drapery header is finished appeals to the timelessness of drapery trends. Pinch pleat styling holds the top spot for popularity, with grommets next and drapery hooks and rings to follow. If you’d rather not see so much of the curtain rod, ripplefold draperies are attached with a specialty track, maintaining the ripples for consistent design even when adjusted.
Lovely Layers
Layering draperies is one of those designer looks that will never go out of style. Like your wardrobe, layering brings together fabrics in colors, textures and weights that just seem made for one another. The layered look is just one of several home design trends this year.
Right now, one of the hottest drapery trends is the softness of linen, paired with a woven shade. This works for various reasons. Linen and cotton blends create a flowing look that frames the sides of the window, while the shades raise and lower with a certain uniformity. Both woven shades and linen curtains are considered light filtering window coverings–highly sought after for levels of light control, enhanced to fit your preference.

Another fabulously timeless look is solid drapes and sheers on the same window. It’s a similar concept, with the ability to customize the lighting depending on your mood or the time of day. Solid fabrics allow increased control, but sheers make it possible to enjoy the view and incoming light while diffusing the harsh glare.
An Unexpected Addition
While there are key concepts in design, we don’t love the idea of “rules” in making your house a home. We appreciate passing along information about what’s evolving in the design world, but the ultimate decision maker in your home should be you. That being said, we find it such a fun adventure in design to add draperies in unexpected spaces…the primary bath, a luxury closet, the laundry room…drapery trends show us what others are loving right now, but you get to say where you want that vision to appear.
From Colors to Neutrals
Do you love a splash of color, or do you consider yourself loyal neutrals? Many homeowners do have a preference, even if they haven’t ever taken time to think about it. It’s an important decision–regardless of which you prefer. The best thing to do is take some time scrolling through photos to see what catches your eye.
