Window Blinds FAQ
When shopping for blinds, it’s important to do your homework. Window treatments are a big investment, so having all your questions answered is vital to making the right decision. We are happy to help you explore some of the most commonly asked questions. Don’t be shy about reaching out and asking more!
How do I measure for blinds?
When you work with our team at Skyline, we provide professional measurements to ensure your custom blinds are tailored to fit your windows. In addition, we pay attention to whether your windows require inside mount or outside mount. We also identify obstacles, such as window cranks or door handles, so we can recommend the right window coverings product for your home.
Do window blinds offer room darkening?
They absolutely can! Our newest product, Aria Soft Blinds, is designed to close the fabric slats tight, keeping out exterior slivers of light. But, that’s not all. This collection also offer a room darkening feature where one side of the fabric slats is for light filtering and the other for room darkening. All you have to do is adjust the slats specifically to match the level of control.
Other horizontal blinds–like wood, composite and metal–can help you keep out a good amount of light. However, because these are hard treatments, there still can be light gaps, or slivers of light where the slats come together. In order to achieve successful room darkening, you could layer blinds with draperies that you can close.
Can blinds be motorized?
Yes, all four of our collections of window blinds can be motorized. One collection, our fabric blinds, can fully lift with motorization, as well as automatic tilting of the slats. The other three collections can feature motorized tilt, a simple and convenient way to adjust the slats.
Are window blinds considered stylish option?
Yes, blinds are considered a classic type of window covering. They can add a beautiful design element at the window. Real wood blinds are available with painted or stained wood finishes, creating a designer look. Faux wood blinds are a popular choice for their wood grain appearance or painted finishes. Metal blinds coordinate beautifully and offer a metallic accent for contemporary styling. The fabric blinds we offer come in a variety of neutral colors and textured fabrics to complement the look of your home.
Do blinds tend to yellow or crack over time?
This is possible, depending on the brand you choose. With Hunter Douglas blinds, your purchase is protected by exclusive finishes. These finishes have been crafted and tested to withstand direct sunshine, offering you a beautiful window covering product for years to come. Pay attention to the warranty offered by other companies, as well. A brand that doesn’t warranty their own product well should be a warning to you.
