In early 2024, Chicago welcomed The Embry, a striking 16-story condominium development by Sulo Development. Home to 58 thoughtfully designed residences, the building is defined by expansive, large-scale window openings that frame sweeping city views and flood interiors with natural light. Our team at Skyline Window Coverings has had the pleasure of collaborating with multiple homeowners within The Embry, creating custom window treatment solutions that balance design, function, and lifestyle. Below, we highlight three unique projects that showcase how personalized window treatments can elevate even similarly designed spaces.
Project One: Custom Drapery
One of The Embry’s most compelling architectural features is its floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the main living areas. For this project, the homeowner wanted to preserve their views while maintaining the ability to control light and privacy as needed.
Our designer, Tracy, guided the client through fabric selection to find a solution that complemented both the architecture and the homeowner’s aesthetic.
The chosen fabric, Dune, introduced a soft, organic texture that enhanced the space while delivering elegant light-filtering and privacy control. The result is a refined, functional drapery design that feels both intentional and effortless.
Project Two: Sheer Drapery with Motorized Shades
While this residence shared a similar layout to the first project, the homeowner’s design vision called for a lighter, airier feel. Drapery was again the preferred solution, but with an emphasis on maximizing natural light.
Tracy worked closely with the client to select a sheer fabric that seamlessly blended into the living areas, home office, and bedroom. To provide additional privacy and room-darkening capabilities, we layered the design with custom Honeycomb shades featuring PowerView motorization. This combination delivered both visual softness and high-performance functionality, resulting in a beautifully balanced and highly livable space.
Project Three: Pirouette Window Shadings
Our most recent project at The Embry took a modern, streamlined approach with custom Pirouette window shadings. Known for their versatility, Pirouettes offer a range of light-control options from soft, diffused daylight to complete privacy.
The homeowners can adjust the vanes to enjoy view-through visibility, fully close them for privacy, or raise the shade entirely to take in the stunning outdoor views. The clean lines and innovative design of these shades perfectly complement the residence’s contemporary aesthetic, completing the space with both style and purpose.
